Funding Formula Stage 4
Visibility: Capability Statement Template
1. What is a capability statement?
A capability statement is a short document (usually 2 pages), prepared for a wide range of donors, which demonstrates the strengths of an organisation and showcases all the best work that it has undertaken. It provides a quick overview of the strengths and activities of the organisation and can be provided to donors, potential partners and other stakeholders.
2. What should be in a capability statement?
In two pages, a capability statement should cover:
- Organisation’s vision or mission statement
- Relevant national statistics eg. population; unintended pregnancies; unmet need for contraception; infant/maternal mortality.
- Country map
- Key areas of work/ key activities
- Strategic goals and/or future plans
- Unique selling points, ie. what is unique about the organisation that is likely to be meaningful to donors/partners. It might be an innovative approach to service deliver; reach into underserved communities; the range of services offered; advocacy work; strong relationship with government, etc.
- Recent achievements or results
- Contact information: address, email and phone number
- Photos to make the document visually interesting
Once created, the information in the template can, and should, be edited for different target audiences as required.
